The stunning Tolman Edition 205 GTI is the epitome of the 80s hot hatch era, with all the modern reliability and feature functionality buyers have come to expect from carefully re-imagined classics.
All cars are carefully assembled at the Tolman Engineering workshop from a freshly prepared, bare metal shell that receives the latest in anti-corrosion, stone chip and ceramic coating protection. Over 700 hours are spent in creating each Tolman Edition and Top Gear magazine said of it: ".....a better-than-new incarnation of a stone-cold hot hatch classic."
Individual customer specification is encouraged and the first Edition to be delivered was specced with the desirable 1.9 litre engine fitted with a ported 16-valve head, a bespoke billet cam cover and a Motec ECU for around 200bhp. This generates 160ft/lb of torque and gives a 1-62mph (100km/h) time of 6.5 seconds and a top speed of 140mph (225km/h). In addition the customer went for a fly-by-wire throttle, Tolman’s stainless-steel exhaust, a Quaife ATB diff and the ‘big brake’ upgrade with AP Racing callipers.
The interior has been beautifully refurbished, looking as good as new and Tolman have stuck faithfully to the original layout. However, there are some concessions to contemporary car design as the LCD dashboard replicates original analogue dials with the ability to display more data, custom pages and designs.
